Crimean Bridge

Explosives Damage CriCrimean Bridge Again

Second Attack in Less Than a Year

Key Bridge Remains Only Link Between Crimea and Russia

For the second time in less than a year, explosives have damaged the bridge linking Crimea to Russia. The 19-km 12-mile Crimea Bridge over the Kerch Strait is the only direct link between the annexed peninsula and the Russian mainland, making it a strategic target for both sides in the ongoing conflict.

Last October, a truck bomb caused a partial collapse of the bridge, killing four people. This latest attack, which occurred early this morning, caused significant damage to the bridge's roadway and railway tracks. No casualties have been reported so far.

The Russian government has blamed Ukrainian forces for the attack, but Ukraine has denied responsibility. The incident is likely to further escalate tensions between the two countries and complicate efforts to resolve the conflict.

The bridge, which was built by Russia after it annexed Crimea in 2014, has been a major target for Ukrainian forces since the start of the war. The bridge is a vital supply route for Russian troops in Crimea and has also been used to launch attacks on targets in Ukraine.

The damage to the bridge is a major setback for Russia, which is now facing the prospect of having to repair or replace the structure at a time when it is already struggling financially due to the war.
